Grupo SURA was awarded the silver medal (Silver Class) when it was included for the eighth consecutive year in the Sustainability Yearbook of RobecoSAM, which brings together 458 organizations of 2,668 invited to participate in this measurement. This recognition reflects the ongoing commitment to responsible and comprehensive management of Grupo SURA and its subsidiaries Suramericana (specializing in insurance, trends and risks) and SURA Asset Management (expert in pensions, savings and investment).
The RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook classifies the companies with the best performance in sustainable practices in 60 industries in 36 countries. The evaluation is based on the companies listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Global Index (DJSI).
In this way, the Company is positioned among the 20 organizations in the world with best practices in environmental, social and economic matters, which were incorporated in this edition of the Yearbook in the sector of Miscellaneous Financial Services and Capital Markets. Likewise, Grupo SURA is the only one of Latin American origin in this industry and one of the 28 in the region that are in the report.
"The inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook is a recognition for the management of more than 29 thousand SURA employees in Latin America, being one of the three companies with the most sustainable medal in our industry in the world, according to RobecoSAM, commits us to do our job better every day", said David Bojanini, CEO of Grupo SURA.
In addition, this evaluation strengthens the bonds of trust with international investors, who increasingly give greater importance in their decision criteria to compliance with high global standards in environmental, social and corporate governance practices, as a sign of sustainability and generation of value of Grupo SURA's businesses.
"We congratulate Grupo SURA for its silver prize in the Sustainability Yearbook 2019, which shows the companies with the best performance among their colleagues in the industry and in terms of financially important ASG metrics (environmental, social and government). As the assessment constantly increases in level, the Yearbook remains a highly credible source of information on corporate sustainability", said Daniel Wild, Ph.D., Co-CEO of RobecoSAM.
This recognition is added to the ratification in the Dow Jones Sustainability Global Index last September. Grupo SURA remained the only Latin American company in its industry and obtained 79 points out of a possible 100, a rating higher than 98% for organizations in the sector evaluated in three dimensions: environmental, social and economic. Some of the best evaluated criteria were: risks and crisis management; attraction and retention of human talent; occupational safety and health, and financial inclusion.
Finally, for Grupo SURA it is a priority to maintain sustainability in all business areas, which is evident in the acknowledgments that also received companies that are part of its investment portfolio: Bancolombia received the gold medal in the Banking sector; Grupo Argos was also recognized with gold in the Construction Materials sector, and its subsidiary Cementos Argos obtained silver in the same industry; Grupo Nutresa also received a silver medal in the Food Products sector.
