Since May 2016, he has served as the Chief Executive Officer of SURA Asset Management, where he has led its growth and transformation, whose Savings and Retirement business unit makes it the Latin American leader in the pension industry and through its regional platform SURA Investments it has positioned itself in the investment and asset management industry for both institutional clients and individuals. 

Ignacio holds a degree in Production Engineering from Universidad EAFIT, he is also a Fulbright scholar and holds Master’s degrees in Economics from the State University of New York and in Marketing Management from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (Medellín). During his graduate studies he worked in the Economics Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (2000 – 2001). He has also pursued several executive programs focusing on strategy, sustainability, human talent and digital transformation. 

Previously, he served for nearly four years as Chief Corporate Finance Officer with Grupo SURA and was the International Finance Director with Groupe Casino, in France, for the latter´s subsidiaries in Asia, Indian Ocean and Latin America. Previously, he held various managerial positions in strategy, cash management and investments at Grupo SURA, after starting his professional career in 1996 at Suramericana de Seguros (today Seguros SURA Colombia). 

Throughout his career he has served on several boards of directors. He currently serves on the boards of AFORE SURA in Mexico, and Protección (permanent guest) and Grupo Crystal in Colombia. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Fundación SURA, a member of the Advisory Board of the World Pension Summit (The Hague, The Netherlands) and of the Advisory Board of Colombia´s Central Bank (Banco de la República).
